Worship

What to Expect

We are delighted to have you join us! Here are some things you might expect to find at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

We gather for Weekly Worship to give our thanks and praise to God. We are a Word and Sacrament church, so our worship services feature relevant, Biblical preaching (Word) and the gracious gift of Holy Communion (Sacrament). At St. John’s Lutheran Church, Holy Communion is open to all baptized Christians, including children who have received their First Communion. Small children are invited to come forward to receive a blessing.

Speaking of children, we love the sound of children in our church. Throughout the week, our hallways are filled with the joyful sounds of our preschoolers and our “before” and “after” school students. Sunday morning is no different! Children make noise, but this is the kind of noise we delight in hearing. But if your child should need a quiet moment, there is a nursery available where you can view the service, so you can continue to be engaged in worship while you give your child the time they need.

Come as you are. At St. John’s you will find ladies wearing dresses or slacks and men wearing open collar shirts. You will also find people wearing shorts, jeans, and t-shirts. Don’t fret about your clothes, just come!

We are a friendly congregation, so people are going to say, “Hello!”. We will not ask you to stand and introduce yourself to folks that you don’t know.

We are a church that is committed to daily Bible reading, and we are intentional about our use of the Bible in Sunday morning worship. But no need to worry if you don’t have a Bible, we have a Bible available in every pew for everyone.

We are committed to daily prayer, and would love to pray for you and your needs.

People at St. John’s are generous in their giving to God and to those in need. Every Sunday, we receive an offering as a way of saying “thank you” to God and to support the mission of our church.

Worship Styles

At St. John’s Lutheran Church, we seek to reach more people by offering two worship times with two worship styles.

Our 8:30 worship service is contemporary (non-liturgical) with music led by our worship band and vocalists.  Our 10:45 worship service is traditional (liturgical) with music led by our pipe organ and choirs. (Please note the 10:45 service changes to the 10:00 service in the summer.)

Both services share many of the same important components, including Scripture Reading, Children’s Message, Sermon, The Apostles’ Creed, Confession/Forgiveness, The Lord’s Prayer, and Holy Communion.
